Colombian Little Miss Thong

Little Miss Thong candidates, waiting to be judged.

Little Miss Thong is pageant in Colombia for 6-10 years old. This is a part of the annual festival del Rio Suarez. But, should young girls aged 6-10 be parading around in swimsuit and wait to be judged in public?

Some local officials in Northeastern, Barbosa defended the pageant. "We would never induce girls to make inappropriate or vulgar acts," insisted Barbosa mayor Rocio Galeano on a local radio station.

She continued: "We are simply promoting the defence of the body, of body care. It is giving the children the importance they deserve."

The competition has "always had the support and permission of parents," said Galeano.

But many disagreed! Some says "Little Miss Thong, just a name for child prostitution written over it".

Also, Cristina Plazas, the director of Colombia for Family Welfare Institute said: "The Little Miss Thong competition is shameful and totally violates the rights of the girls! How horrible and irresponsible of the parents."

Could this pageant for "Young Miss" be a pathway to prostitution?
