“I’d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not”

"Back in College when I was still a Nursing student, I’ve engaged into community services. At first I thought, ah, this is just for fun and for our compliance. However, as time progresses I realized this is something crucial. What’s more interesting is that I even got a chance to study, plan and implement nursing education to a family and also to the community. A total awareness I say. It opened my eyes about what is a community in general.

If I win and be chosen as Mr United Continents Philippines 2016, I will take advantage of the opportunity to take part of one’s life and teach everyone, if not, influence them in addressing concerns in a community like environmental issues, family planning, malnutrition by using my knowledge that I acquired back in College which has proven to be more efficient based on Nursing independent interventions. And also I would like to make sure that I will have fun on this event, before, during and after the grand finals."

Tell us a little about yourself, your family background, education?

I am Celso P. Salon, Jr, 27 years of age. I was born on the 31st of August 1988. I am the 7th of the 8th child of Neolida and Celso, who's been married for almost 39 years. My mother is a government employee and will be running in the office as a councilor in 2016 elections. My father is a farmer and a driver as well. My siblings are (in particular order) Sharon, Mechelle, Azenith, Mitz, Maeam, Karl, Nove Kris.

I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Liceo de Cagayan University and in 2011 I took and passed the Nursing Licensure Examination.

My interest in modelling started back in my senior year in college, wherein I even went to a gym to make myself better. I got an official certificate in the year 2014 in Cebu city under Sir Dux Samolde of Limelight Model Management and even featured in one of the most influential national newspaper.

How did you become interested in pageants?

I got interested in pageants because of my Mom. She is one of the organizers back in our province and every time there's an event, she will let me take part of the program as an Usher or even an award presenter for almost 4 consecutive years.

How does it feel to represent the province of Camiguin in Mister United Continents Philippines 2016?

It is flattering to be honest. As far as I recall, no one represented our Province in a National Pageant. There are lots of beautiful women from our Island who joined pageants but they never presented our Island.

Give three adjectives that your friends would use to describe you.

Tell us about one life-changing experience in your life.

I have a lot of frustrations, like my height. Winning the title for the Metropolitan Fashion Group of the Philippines Cycle 2 last 2015 really changed my perspective about myself. It unbolted a lot of opportunities that enhanced and boost my confidence at some point. What a life changing experience indeed.

Name three things that you would never do.

1st. I won’t put God’s name in vain.
2nd. I would never disrespect my parents.
3rd. I would never do drugs

What do you like to do for fun?

Things to do for fun really depend on the season. When it comes to a rainy season? I loved to sleep all day and take a sip of chocolate drink. For sunny weather, well, I go to the beach and do some fun games. Play with the sand perhaps? Haha.

What would constitute a "perfect" evening for you?

Working out, take a shower right after, play online games like Clash of Clans, reading good articles online and take a moment with God before I sleep constitutes a perfect evening for me.

Tell us a little about the province of Camiguin. What makes your province different from the rest?

Barely 240 square kilometers in land area, Camiguin is the second smallest island of the Philippines in both area and population. It is just 23 kilometers long and just a bit more than 14 kilometers wide. Lovely little Camiguin is the island “born of fire.” What makes our province different to the other is that we have 7 both active and inactive volcanoes lies within the island. Amazing right?

How will you motivate others to practice sustainable living choices?

I will motivate others to practice sustainable living choices by following their heart on what they are passionate about because if they are passionate on one thing, it will reflect on someone’s aura and it will propagate and inspire others to be compassionate. By then, whatever they do, they can be happy and there’ll be no frustrations at all.

How would you describe your advocacy to the judges?

Advocacy is working to influence public policy in social, economic, political, and cultural spheres in order to bring about justice and positive change in human rights and environmental issues. With the help of the Local Government in Camiguin, we have agreed to choose environmental advocacy to show to the whole country what our island has to offer, especially when it comes to the ecotourism in our island. Environmental advocacy involves both protecting the public from environmental hazards and protecting the natural world, which Camiguin is currently at its best that we were even recognized as one of the finest and most beautiful island not only in our country but in the world.

Through my advocacy video, it will show how beautiful and almost perfect our Island is, when it comes to protecting the environment from the hazardous materials. Surely, it will influence others, or the neighbouring cities to follow what we have done like planting trees on some areas that needs more trees to prevent flooding and soil erosion. And I even took part of it since high school and now the trees have grown! Such an amazing and fulfilling experience!

Boxers or Briefs?

It depends. If I wanna feel sexy, I’d wear brief. If I wanna be comfortable in bed, I’d prefer boxer brief.

Blue or Pink?

When I was young, I always admire Blue Ranger in a television series Mighty Morphin and wanted to be one of them. Crazy childhood, eh? Haha. Aside from that, the color blue has something that’s too deep like sea water. It’s very meaningful and intriguing.

Piolo Pascual or Derek Ramsay?

Some of my friends mocked me as a young Derek. It flatters me to be honest but if I were to choose between him over Piolo? I choose the latter. Piolo has a lot to offer in one plate and he has done many things in the industry not only in showbusiness.

Anne Curtis or Angel Locsin?

Angel for me is a versatile actress. She is beautiful inside and out. She even reached out to the victims of the calamities previously without a camera. She’s a total package indeed.

Message to your supporters, friends and family?

Daghang salamat sa tanan ( Thanks a lot everyone )!
