Carolyn Carter is Miss US Virgin Islands 2016





Carolyn Carter will represent the US Virgin Islands at Miss Universe 2016. This is the first time since 2011 where the country has been represented at the Miss Universe pageant.

Carter was born in New Orleans and grew up in St Croix. The beauty queen graduated from AZ Academy in St. Croix and swam competitively for the St. Croix Dolphins for 11 years and the US Virgin Islands National Swim Team. She attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where she studied art and art history.

Carter is not a newbie to the pageant world. Previously she competed at Miss World 2010 in China, Miss Supranational 2011 in Poland and Miss Earth 2012 in the Philippines.



The very first queen of Virgin Islands was Priscila Bonilla who competed at the Miss Universe 1961 in the United States. And since U.S Virgin Islands competed in Miss Universe they only placed once, that was in 1971 where Cherrie Raphaelia Creque placed as one of the top 15 semi finalists.

Between 1978 and 2007 Miss United States Virgin Islands contest had become the most prestigious contest in the islands. The Miss U.S. Virgin Islands titleholders constantly competed at the Miss Universe while the Miss World candidate of this islands traditionally crowned in the same event and participated in the pageant as Miss American Virgin Islands.

Miss Venezuela Pageant Suspended Amid Prostitution and Corruption Scandal

The organization behind Miss Venezuela’s iconic beauty pageant is under investigation for possible misconduct of its contestants following claims of prostitution and corruption throughout the organization.
Former Miss Venezuela contestants, posted on social media insinuating other contestants had romantic relationships with corrupt businessmen and officials.
"Given the events recently described on social media ... a decision has been made to begin an internal review to determine if anyone linked (to the pageant), during the course of their involvement, violated the values and ethics of the contest," the Miss Venezuela Organization said in a statement.
Miss Venezuela is owned by the wealthy Venezuelan Cisneros family.
