Emma Carswell from Gilford was the eventual winner, and she has booked her place at Miss World 2016, taking place later this year.

The 21-year-old and psychology student at Ulster University, from Gilford in Co Down, who volunteers at a suicide prevention charity, said she “did not expect to win the title.” 

Reigning Miss World 2015, Mireia Lalaguna Royo sat as judge.

“She is a fantastic representative for Northern Ireland, and she did so well last night… I wish her luck in her preparations, and look forward to seeing her again later this year.” Lalaguna said.

Speaking at her crowning Emma said “I am absolutely delighted to wear the Therapie Miss Northern Ireland crown and be given the opportunity to represent Northern Ireland in this way! I’ve always looked up to previous Miss Northern Ireland winners, so I hope to follow in their footsteps and become a positive role model for other local girls!”

Megan Geddis and Chloe Moore were the first and second runners-up respectively.
