Miss World 2015, Mireia Lalaguna to visit Kenya

Reigning Miss World Mireia Lalaguna will be travelling to Kenya next week alongside Miss World CEO Julia Morley. During a 4-day visit, the duo will see local programs for Smile Train, the world’s largest cleft charity, and the anti-jigger campaign.

Kenya’s Idah Nguma was one of five winners of the Beauty with a Purpose award at Miss World 2014, for the work done through her partnership with Smile Train. Miss World will be awarding Idah with a SH1 million prize for this achievement, to benefit smile train.

“We are excited that Mireia will be joining Smile Train’s local programs in Kenya and have the chance to meet with some of the cleft children we help as part of the initiative."” said Smile Train Africa regional director Dr Esther Njoroge, continuing “Miss World’s Beauty with a Purpose program gives contestants the opportunity to advocate for a cause and make a meaningful impact across global communities.”

The visit will also be an opportunity to monitor the development of the Anti-Jiggers campaign, an initiative which raises awareness of Jiggers and fights to eradicate the devastating condition. Miss World Kenya 2005 Cecilia Mwangi is the HSC Director & Campaign Ambassador for the campaign, and has been working on the initiative for the past decade.
