This is not the first time that the Ministry of Culture and Information of Vietnam will be imposing a fine on a Veitnam's delegate to an international contest without authorization.

Cultural authorities said on Friday they will impose a fine of VND22.5 million (US$1,000) against an up-and-coming male model for competing in a male beauty pageant in Thailand without permission.

A representative from the Department of Performing Arts told Thanh Nien Nguyen Phuc Vinh Cuong, 23, will be fined as soon as he returns from Mister Global 2016 finals held May 6 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The official said that the Vietnamese model did not report to the culture department when applying for the contest, and it was against the law.

According to Vietnam's official rules, those who want to compete in beauty competitions abroad must have at least one national title and must secure permission from the Ministry of Culture and Information.

Apart from administrative fines, models and beauties competing overseas without approval will be banned from performing in 6-24 months once an amended government decree on cultural violations takes effect in the coming time.

Eligibility of competing abroad should be a national winner and with recognition from their Tourism Department. It is illegal if you will compete international without authorization.
