Just In: Miss Universe to be held in the Philippines

The 65th edition of Miss Universe pageant will be held in the Philippines on January 30, 2017. It was confirmed by Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo, on Thrusday afternoon, July 28, 2016 during a press conference.

"Our President is from Mindanao, our Miss Universe is from [Cagayan De Oro] Mindanao, so I think it's the best time for us to do the Miss Universe here in the Philippines," Sec. Teo said.

“Sponsoring Miss Universe is our focus right now, with the plan and sources of funding in tow. We are ready to seize the moment,” tourism head Wanda Teo said. “Once Pia announces that Miss Universe is going to happen here, people abroad will start looking at the map and see where the Philippines is. And, we’re saying, we’d love to have you in Philippines.”

"Private sector will handle the expenses. The president's concern was the gastos. But when we assured him that there will be no funding from the government. He said, okay. 'This is already okay' So we don't know where the news report came from that he did not like it. He never said that," Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro

The reigning Miss Universe 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach will crown her successor at the end of the event. This year more than 80 countries will be vying to win the coveted title of Miss Universe 2016 and hoping to be "Confidently Beautiful with a Heart".

While more than 50 countries have already crowned their delegates for Miss Universe 2016, other nations have already scheduled their national pageants in the coming months. The Miss Universe pageant was founded in  in 1952 by the California-based clothing company Pacific Knitting Mills, and the Miss Universe Organization. In September 2015, Trump bought the entire stock of the Miss Universe Organization from NBC, becoming its sole owner for three days, then sold the entire stock to WME/IMG

This last time the Philippines hosted Miss Universe was in 1994 where Sushimita Sen of India won the crown.

If it's a battle of wit and credentials, Jerelleen Rodriguez will easily snatch the main crown or any of the titles.

She will surely leave you at awe with what she has to offer. This lass from Nasugbu, Batangas is a Cum laude graduate with a degree in BS Business Administration and Accountancy from the UP Diliman and a Certified Public Accountant who placed sixth in the October 2013 CPA board licensure examination. She is also a Professor at the University of the Philippines - Diliman for the Department of Accounting and Finance while studying law at the UP College of Law.



Aside from all of these, she is also a member of the National Union of People’s Lawyers, a Chief Finance Officer, MGC Holdings, Inc., an angel investment hub and an education advocate.


Aren't these enough for her to win any of the crowns?

She only has not the gift of gab and wit but of beauty as well.
