“Sponsoring Miss Universe is our focus right now, with the plan and sources of funding in tow. We are ready to seize the moment,” tourism head Wanda Teo said. “Once Pia announces that Miss Universe is going to happen here, people abroad will start looking at the map and see where the Philippines is. And, we’re saying, we’d love to have you in Philippines.”

"Private sector will handle the expenses. The president's concern was the gastos. But when we assured him that there will be no funding from the government. He said, okay. 'This is already okay' So we don't know where the news report came from that he did not like it. He never said that," Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro

The reigning Miss Universe 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach will crown her successor at the end of the event. This year more than 80 countries will be vying to win the coveted title of Miss Universe 2016 and hoping to be "Confidently Beautiful with a Heart".
