Miss Universe 2017: Final Picks

1:36:00 AM

It's that time of the year again where 92 beautiful women will battle it all out for the crown; the Miss Universe crown.

With only a day and few hours left before the 66th edition of the grandest pageant in the universe which will crown its new queen, the stakes are really getting higher. Preliminary competition, close-door interview, and national costume show are over. Now is the time to pick your bets.

Mexico's Denise Franco is my top pick for the crown. This 19 year-old high school graduate who is pursuing a degree in medicine will surely rock the Miss Universe stage. She works closely with Smile Train that provides free cleft and lip palatte surgery to children globally. She also works closely with a charity where she is able to visit abused children in their foster homes. Denise is really in it to win it.

In second place is Maria Poonlertlarp of Thailand. She has Bachelor's Degree in International Business Management and a Master's Degree in Marketing. She works and is passionate about sharing the importance of sex education for the safety and health of teens. Maria may not be the bet in Asia but surely she is doing her best to be her country's third Miss Universe winner.

Coming next is Philippines' Rachel Peters. This lass loves coffee, surfing, the beach and interior design. She graduated with a degree in business. She is an advocate for celebrating one's individuality despite all the noise and pressures of social media. What more interesting about her is, she's always up for the challenge. And the greatest challenge she's about to conquer is winning the Miss Universe crown.

Dreaming for a back-to-back after winning the crown during the 65th Miss Universe pageant and placing fourth in my list is France's Alicia Aylies. This law student has spent over half of her life dedicated to the sport of Fencing, leading her to win numerous French Caribbean Championships. She considered herself a tomboy growing up, only learning how to walk in a pair of heels when preparing for her first fashion show. She plans to continue raising funds for different volunteer programs on a larger scale, and mentoring aspiring young athletes interested in Fencing. Will she make it this far?

Completing my circle of five is the super favorite to win the crown, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa. She made history during her high school studies for holding two leadership positions. She is passionate about a program she helped develop to train women in self-defense in various situations. She plans to share these workshops and help as many women as she can. She might have lost her sparks during the preliminaries but I still believe in her.

Making it to my top 16 are; Venezuela, Spain, Indonesia, USA, Russia, Brazil, Angola, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Germany. Aruba is my alternate.
