Then and Now: Miss Universe 2008 first runner-up, Taliana Vargas

Taliana Vargas was Miss Universe Colombia 2007 and competed in the Miss Universe 2008 pageant. She had a neck-to-neck battle with the eventual winner Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela.

She had the highest score in both swimsuit and evening gown competition during her time. However, after the question and answer round she ended as  first runner-up.

Where is she now after the Miss Universe 2008 pageant?

Based on her Instagram profile, she is an actress, activist, and the President of Fundacion Casa en Árbol.

Currently, she is one of the most promising actresses as well as a successful model in Colombia. Her first leading role was in the RCN TV soap opera "Chepe Fortuna" in 2010 which she won best actress in a leading role.

She also played Paola Salcedo, the wife of the Cali Cartel's security chief in season 3 of the Netflix series Narcos and has been the image of various well-known brands in her homeland such as L'Oréal Paris Elvive, Studio F, Nestlé and appeared in many publications.

Consequently, Fundacion Casa en Arbol according to its website is a non-profit organization, which since its foundation in 2013 and under the direction of Taliana Vargas, has developed projects focused on transforming communities and promoting the construction of a social fabric especially with children, adolescents (NNAs) and women from vulnerable sectors. This purpose is fulfilled through programs that promote training and labor inclusion, income generation for their families, improvement in the quality and level of education, play, sports and psychosocial support, which in turn generate spaces for productivity and transformation towards peace and healthy coexistence in their own environment.

Miss Venezuela Pageant Suspended Amid Prostitution and Corruption Scandal

The organization behind Miss Venezuela’s iconic beauty pageant is under investigation for possible misconduct of its contestants following claims of prostitution and corruption throughout the organization.
Former Miss Venezuela contestants, posted on social media insinuating other contestants had romantic relationships with corrupt businessmen and officials.
"Given the events recently described on social media ... a decision has been made to begin an internal review to determine if anyone linked (to the pageant), during the course of their involvement, violated the values and ethics of the contest," the Miss Venezuela Organization said in a statement.
Miss Venezuela is owned by the wealthy Venezuelan Cisneros family.
